Opening Ceremony

This is the opening ceremony of 9th World Bicycle Forum, 2020

The opening ceremony will have all the representatives of the partner organization and participants and honorary guest invited in the event. It will be open to everyone.  

The opening ceremony will be hosted by Usha Titukshu, National Organizing Committee member of World Bicycle Forum 2020. She is a bicycle traveler and a rights advocate.  The event will be chaired by Pushkar Shah, Coordinator of World Bicycle Forum. Welcome note by the Prime Minister of Nepal will be The following guest will also attending the opening ceremony. 

The World Bike Forum is a yearly cycling activism event in which the topics of bicycle urban mobility and the planning of cities made by and for the people are discussed. WBF began as an answer to an automobile driver deliberately colliding with around 20 cyclists that were participating in a Critical Mass event in Porto Alegre, Brazil on February 25. The first edition of the WBF took place during the first anniversary of these events.

 It is a platform to bring together the wisdom of collectives, citizens, international networks, scholars, international experts, and policymakers to share their experiences and insights regarding strategies and knowhow to better transform urban spaces into more human and bicycle-friendly environments.

Beyond the discussion, the WBF tries to strengthen the social networks among participants from different cities and countries, to encourage permanent changes in the venue city and, through the sharing of experiences and practical workshops, to stimulate an immediate personal change of the participants.

Nepal dates and events

The WBF 2020 will be held online on www.fmb9.org from 19-22 September 2020. In collaboration with Municipal Association of Nepal, municipalities, and 34 different civil society organization all around Nepal, Asia and Latin America  WBF2020 will have more than 36 virtual and few exceptional physical events- workshops, seminars, film festivals, photo/art /visual exhibitions, panel discussions, presentations, demonstrations, online music concerts, debate, and more. We anticipate the participation of global bicycle users, activists, campaigners, environmentalists, and sustainable development practitioners.

Pushkar Shah

Chair of the Opening Ceremony Coordinator of World Bicycle Forum 2020. Pushkar Shah has traveled around the world for 11 years through 150 countries with the message of world peace. He is the brand ambassador of Kathmandu cycle City 2020 campaign, that visioned Kathmandu to be the cycle friendly city since 2009.

Marcelo Sgarbossa

Marcelo Sgarbossa

Councilor Marcelo Sgarbossa: a cycle activist, lawyer and university professor. Specialist in Human Rights, Master in Public Policy Analysis from the University of Turin (Italy) and Doctor in Law. As a professional cyclist in the 90s, he was Brazilian champion. Marcelo was one of the organizers of the first World Bicycle Forum. He is currently councilor in Porto Alegre, known as the "bicycle councilman", defending a bicycle as a symbol to humanize cities.

Kalanidhi Devkota

Kalanidhi Devkota has been working for MuAN as Executive Director since November 2008. He holds a Master Degree in Urban Management and Governance from IHS, the Netherlands. His areas of expertise include local governance, poverty reduction, urban resource mobilization, public policy and management.
